About the Work
Perth four-piece Rogues make music that sounds like it was excavated from another era — Depeche Mode and Tears for Fears refracted through hip-hop minimalism and classical composition — and the Desire video was built to match. We shot over a few days at Jack Rabbit Slims, leaning hard into the retro aesthetic the band had crafted on their debut EP Double Vision: rear projection, sim-trav, the poor man's process, and a handful of other analogue-era tricks that felt right at home with the music.
The band wanted something that felt genuinely nostalgic rather than nostalgic by imitation, and that's exactly the line we tried to walk. The edit came together somewhere over the Pacific — cut on a laptop during an international flight, which felt appropriately chaotic for a band who pride themselves on capturing a feeling in the moment. It's a cheeky video, but also reflects the ridiculous fun we had on set and behind the scenes piecing it together.
