ABOUT

PETER FIREBRACE is an experimental filmmaker, video artist and educator based in Walyalup, Western Australia. With a deep commitment to exploring complex sociocultural themes through visual storytelling, Peter’s work challenges conventional narratives and advocates for inclusivity, diversity and justice.
As a gender non-conforming artist with autism, Peter brings a distinctive, introspective lens to their work, using personal and collective experiences to examine the intersections of belief, systems and identity.
Since graduating from film school in 2011, Peter has developed a body of work that spans documentary, short films, music videos and video art. Their early short films such as SIMON. YOU’RE DONE. gained attention for its bold, surreal storytelling at film festival screenings. Peter has collaborated with acclaimed artists such as Tracey Moffatt, Derek Kreckler, Cecile B. Evans and Abdul Abdullah. Their previous projects, including the successful documentary series PERTH ARTISTS, have established Peter as a significant voice in the West Australian arts community, achieving broadcasting grants.
Currently, Peter is preparing a festival circuit for their debut feature film,
OF WOMB, which delves into the unsettling intersection of religious upbringing, control, and the blurred line between faith and fiction. This project is a culmination of Peter's ongoing exploration of how personal and collective beliefs shape our realities.
With more feature film scripts in development, Peter continues to push the boundaries of experimental cinema.
Recognised for their award-winning cinematography and impactful video art, PETER FIREBRACE is poised to bring their distinctive vision to a wider audience, engaging viewers who appreciate films that challenge and unsettle.
