About the Work
Video documentation of Amy Perejuan-Capone's installation of Fugue at John Curtin Gallery (Oct-Dec 2023).
"Fugue is a nostalgic project with the aim of resurrecting fraught objects from the past in order to redeem them. It is driven by the poetic compulsion to reconcile what has been scattered and to repair that which has been threatened or destroyed. The project is at once specific and vague, and seeks to evoke in the viewer a sense of longing for something unplaceable; familiarity sitting just beyond the limit of memory. The physical elements of the installation engage multiple senses to place the viewer within infinite iterations of a moment. This experience begins specific- the elements chosen are biographical- but unravels as the foundations of certainty fade. Here, in the cab of a dead sedan, the past and present are one. In this troubled interior space resides a fraught but transformational stillness." Amy Perejuan-Capone
